7 millimetri

2017.

"7 millimetri" is the distance between two limits. It is the distance which corresponds to the dilation movement of the human pupil, the interval between one and eight millimeters in which all the information of vision passes in the form of light. The project is divided in two stages, a space flooded with artificial light opposes a dark atmosphere. These are the limits, the beginning and the end of the exhibition route, two distant spaces where the two works designed specifically for "Piani sulla cometa" are installed, where light speaks and darkness sings.

The first intervention "Come vedere al buio" is a short crossing of around five meters where two light lines suspended in the empty space converge on an ideal optical center. The visitor, by entering in “Spaziosiena” gallery, activates a photoelectric cell. The LED strips begins to flash according to a high frequency Morse code which reproduces the title of the work. The sight, the sense usually educated to respond to the requests of a visual art exhibition comes to be bombarded with a burst of information bordering on perception. The passage in this stroboscopic environment causes a slight optical disorientation which beyond the volumetric alteration of the space leads to the miosis of the pupil.
"Sputnik" is the other installation which closes the exhibition. It is situated in an inaccessible space from where a slow, intermittent and monotonous sound rises which seems to come from very far. This sound is the song of a small nocturnal raptor. His call transports us to the vastness of the cosmos. The bird uses its own communication code, just like the first satellite sent into orbit. The darkness of the cave is almost total, the pupil updates its mydriasis to focus on the only spatial referent which is a red dot suspended in the void. In this case, the work is of sound matrix, but the led indicator of the audio player positioned in this apparently unlimited space, produces a visual sublimation.
In "Come vedere al buio" there is also a double presence. Indeed, the lights of light are punctuated phonetically by the relè which opens and closes with each passage of information. In both installations the devices are left voluntarily "visible", they are integrally part of the work. The entire audiovisual apparatus was built on the devices.
